Status of the norwegian sámi bibliography and the project “a j oint nordic sámi bibliography” The Norwegian Sámi bibliography contains documents in Sámi and other languages if the subject is Sámi related and published in Norway. The bibliography covers the period from 1945-1987 and from 1993 until today. A brief history background The bibliography’s pioneer was the Sudet -German Justin Siegert. He was employed at The Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU) in Trondheim in 1953, and was occupied with the Sámi, among other things when it came to bibliographical remedies. In 1979 NTNU supported Mr Siegert, who had in his spare time gathered bibliographical information about Sámi relations from 1973 and forward. In 1980 Anders Loov and a couple of others formed a steering group which took over this work in Trondheim. They produced two printed bibliographies, the last one a cumulated edition, which includes references to published material in Norway from 1945-1987. The National Library of Norway in Mo i Rana took over the responsibility for the Norwegian Sámi bi bliography in 1993, as the Minister of Culture claimed that it is a National task to continue this work within the frames of the National Library and the Legal deposit law. Why is there a need for producing a Sámi Bibliography? The bibliography is a joint resource to the indigenous people in Norway and is of great importance to the Sámi people as it can be seen as a carrier of the Sámi heritage.
